Sexually Transmitted Diseases
- Approximately 20,000,000 new cases of sexually transmitted diseases occur each year in the U.S.
- There are currently approximately 110,000,000 cases of STDs in the U.S.
- That’s equivalent to 1 STD for every 3 Americans.
- STDs are either Viral or Non-Viral:
- Viral STDs (HPV, HSV2, HepB, HIV) are incurable.
- Non-Viral STDs (Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis) are curable.
- Although condoms may reduce the risk of STDs, no contraceptive product provides complete protection from sexually transmitted diseases.
- Everyone who engages in sexual activity outside of marriage is at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease.
- Couples who reserve all sexual activity for marriage, and remain faithful for life, cannot contract a sexually transmitted disease.
- A&M Programs clearly communicate the truth that saving all sexual activity for marriage is the only sure way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and is the safest, healthiest, choice.
